Happy face turned into a sad face

Our Family Sportsfest finally opened last Thursday!  It was postponed twice because of unavailability of venue so when Mr. Ronnie, the school coordinator called me up offering the venue for half a day use, I readily said yes, not thinking that the timing will be from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm only.  I just decided it upon myself and grabbed the slot right away because we might lose that elusive opportunity to use it.    I then hurriedly called for a meeting with the Sports working Committee to prepare for the Opening Ceremony.  The program was drafted rushly, discussed on how to go about the ceremony.  One thing we agreed and to emphasize to all the members to come promptly.  Because if we will start the parade behind the scheduled time, without any doubt, the  whole proceedings will be dragged and we don’t want to let those precious time tick away just waiting for others.  We made it clear, at 7:00 am sharp, the parade of colors will start!

Thursday, we were not expecting the 100% attendance at 6:00 am but the members began to swell in numbers around 7:00 am just before the parade starts.   Members came with their children who obviously are still sleepy but looked very excited.  It was a colorful activity  with all 6 colors- green, yellow, blue, black, blue and white teams that eagerly participated and loudly yelled out their team chants.

After the short program, we continued to the the first game which is Fun Basketball for Ladies.  The team was composed of 5 participants who did free throw shooting and the team which had the most numbers of balls shot in 60 seconds wins.     All of us, obviously need to do practice shooting  because most of our balls only reached halfway the ring.   My white team won second place- thanks to our team mate who earned 3 scores.  I only contributed 1 successful shot but I know it was only a lucky chance!   The next game was Badminton but due to our restricted time till 1 pm,  the teams only had one game each and to continue this weekend.

Overall, it was such a happy event, we were able to relax and enjoyed  family bonding time.  However, the next day, I can hardly get up from my bed, I was aching all over.. too sore muscles… Initially, I took pain reliever and rubbed on some mint oil on my body hoping the aches will  be gone in a day or two.

The happy face turned into a sad face when I called off sick in the office.

Metal detection

News about shooting incidents in malls are very alarming and it posed safety concerns to people.  The latest incident that happened was just the other day when a  13-year old boy shot his allegedly 16 year old lover first before he ended his life.   The police said it was a “crime of passion”. Investigation is ongoing on how guns passed through security guards undetected.  The first incident was over a week ago when a jilted wife shot his husband who was working in the mall because allegedly he abandoned her for another woman.  And the security guard who intervened and in an attempt to stop her from shooting herself was the one who got killed.  A

What is alarming is that how a .22  and .38 caliber guns passed through security guards unnoticed?  Are there no metal detectors?  I’ve seen guards in some establishments who only used sticks to pry into bags and packages.   Sophisticated hand held or walk through metal detectors should be installed to ensure public safety.  Because such gadgets would deter those with  plans to bring in deadly weapons and people can rest with the thought that there are no threat to their lives whatsoever.  Maybe some would get annoyed to frisking and getting scanned but this would be the best way to find concealed weapons of anyone who would attempt to bring them in.

Sadly, we noticed that it was only after the recent murder suicide that authorities started to revisit and hopefully they will work on, upgrade and improve safety measures that way it will safeguard the the safety of all.   Every establishments be it government or public should be equipped with metal detectors.

2 days had passed, and as if nothing happened.. people seemingly has easily forgotten that bloody incident because they are all busy doing their early Christmas shopping.   Well, nothing can’t stop them… Shopping is shopping!

Work safely

7 am-5pm, 5 days a week is my normal work routine.  I will leave home before the sun shines and arrives home after sun set.  My job as hospital assistant (or medical secretary) in a multi  racial environment allowed me to grow professionally and  I am exposed to different people at work especially to cardiac surgeons of different personalities. Well, I am aware that stress is attributed to how I work in the office and the fact that I spend most of my time infront of my work station I had overlooked on some safety rules to follow that will increase comfort and avoid strains.   I am having back pains that persists for sometime now which I believe due to wrong posture at work and extended computer use resulted to what I am feeling right now.  An Occupational Health Nurse in the hospital’s Family Medicine where I had my check up reminded me that while it is true that our office has a responsibility to provide a safe working environment to the staff, we also have a responsibility to work safely.

Nurse Jane pulled out an information leaflet for me to review and I found it worth sharing it here. I know that a lot of people also regularly use computers in extended sessions and way beyond working hours just like me who still works infront of my computer till midnight.  It is mostly “computer socialization” like chatting, browsing, blogging…

This is only a reminder because sometimes we are so engrossed in what we are doing that we tend to forget to check on our posture, how our work station is set up and used.  Then in the end we will find ourselves having back pains and wrist strain, eye fatigue and discomfort.

So, remember to work safely by:

  1. Prioritize the layout of items on your desk.  Position things that you use most often closest to you.  Organize your work so that you will continually reach and bend to find items you regularly need.
  2. Use a document holder to minimize eye and head movement if inputting large amounts of data from paper.
  3. Reduce glare and reflections on the screen by adjusting blinds or curtains.
  4. Adjust the contrast and brightness of your screen to suit the lighting conditions in the room
  5. Use keyboard short cuts to keep keystrokes and mouse clicks to a minimum particularly if your work is of a repetitive nature.
  6. Do use a light touch when holding and depressing the mouse button.
  7. Keep your elbows close to your body at all times when keying or using the mouse- don’t extend your arms.
  8. Keep your feet flat on the floor or footrest- don’t sit with your legs crossed or with your feet hooked around the chair base for long periods as they will reduce your circulation.
  9. Take short breaks if sitting for long periods.
  10. Do gentle exercises to relieve aches and pains caused by tension in shoulders, arms, wrists and hands.

I hope this will be of help to you too in a way.

Proud Zugo Ltd. user

Few months back, there was an ongoing brainstorming with matters related to a family owned business of an uncle which needed a facelift.  One aspect they had clearly identified to improve on is their computer system to efficiently serve their clients.  One of her sister opposed cause she was misinformed that such software will affect computer performance and well, she also feared about privacy.  It took  a whole lot  of convincing and explaining that there is nothing to worry about because  products offered by  Zugo Ltd.  is safe and guaranteed to do good than harm to businesses.   He further explained that popularity wise, Zugo’s product  is unquestionable.  Thus, for those who constantly surf, search, browse the web for all their on line needs will definitely swear that it is quicker and easier.

Uncle Bob’s well meaning suggestions were noted for consideration anf for immediate implementation because the group were  already convinced believing that to keep up with modern computer applications will further enhance their marketing strategies.

Now, noticeably prominent when you visit their website is the new start page.  Additionally,  they have created tool bars that are downloadable  undoubtedly command good clientele.   In fact, a techie friend knew based on their tool bars that my uncle and his group are proud Zugo Ltd. user.

And that’s a fact!

A gift of love

Wow!  Today, hubby surprised me with a new computer set!  He surely have thought that I need a faster and high end computer after my giving  birth to a second blog site.

my monitor…with extended viewing angle…

my CPU now.. much better than what I had before

If I may boast, my monitor is now Samsung LED 30 series with magic angle (extended viewing angle) and Intel Core i5 CPU with 3.20 GH and 8.00 GB RAM.  I am not very knowledgeable about the hard drives of computers but I am having a great time using it. Way different from my old one!

This new computer of mine may be not be as outrageous and prestigious as MAC like other bloggers have but I am very much satisfied and  I love what hubby gave me.   It is a gift of love… Sweet….

My new baby!

Today, I just gave birth to a new blog site! I’ve been blogging for years now and this site is my second baby. My first first baby is loveordained.net and it meant so much to me.  I would recall during the initial stages of my blogging days, I would spend long hours awake at night till dawn composing, reviewing, posting blogs.   Somehow, it alienated me from my husband because I would rather spend hours in the computer room next door.   Though he understands, he would be sleeping alone in our king size bed and picture me climbing on bed way past midnight besides a snoring hubby.  It’s pretty obvious, he was already deep in sleep that time and in faraway dreamland.  Lol…no more time for love….

My hubby would not complain because he knows that I love what I am doing. Actually, I am a responsible blogger… I can still wake up very early in the morning (even if I only had 3 hours of sleep the night before), for office.   Amazing,  but my work is not affected at all. I am not “sleeping on the job”. My secret?  Caffeine keeps me alert the whole day… 1 in the morning, 1 coffee break, 1 mid afternoon… and bonus of 1 more cup in the evening.

Well, since blogging is not anymore new to me,  I know how to balance my priorities, but with the coming of this new blog, I am aware that I have to work double time.   However, it does not necessarily mean that  I have to double my coffee consumption!

Got to go… coffee break!
