Happy face turned into a sad face

Our Family Sportsfest finally opened last Thursday!  It was postponed twice because of unavailability of venue so when Mr. Ronnie, the school coordinator called me up offering the venue for half a day use, I readily said yes, not thinking that the timing will be from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm only.  I just decided it upon myself and grabbed the slot right away because we might lose that elusive opportunity to use it.    I then hurriedly called for a meeting with the Sports working Committee to prepare for the Opening Ceremony.  The program was drafted rushly, discussed on how to go about the ceremony.  One thing we agreed and to emphasize to all the members to come promptly.  Because if we will start the parade behind the scheduled time, without any doubt, the  whole proceedings will be dragged and we don’t want to let those precious time tick away just waiting for others.  We made it clear, at 7:00 am sharp, the parade of colors will start!

Thursday, we were not expecting the 100% attendance at 6:00 am but the members began to swell in numbers around 7:00 am just before the parade starts.   Members came with their children who obviously are still sleepy but looked very excited.  It was a colorful activity  with all 6 colors- green, yellow, blue, black, blue and white teams that eagerly participated and loudly yelled out their team chants.

After the short program, we continued to the the first game which is Fun Basketball for Ladies.  The team was composed of 5 participants who did free throw shooting and the team which had the most numbers of balls shot in 60 seconds wins.     All of us, obviously need to do practice shooting  because most of our balls only reached halfway the ring.   My white team won second place- thanks to our team mate who earned 3 scores.  I only contributed 1 successful shot but I know it was only a lucky chance!   The next game was Badminton but due to our restricted time till 1 pm,  the teams only had one game each and to continue this weekend.

Overall, it was such a happy event, we were able to relax and enjoyed  family bonding time.  However, the next day, I can hardly get up from my bed, I was aching all over.. too sore muscles… Initially, I took pain reliever and rubbed on some mint oil on my body hoping the aches will  be gone in a day or two.

The happy face turned into a sad face when I called off sick in the office.

Upset over treadmill

True! Hubby is upset!  Who wouldn’t if one is already geared up and ready for work out only to find out that the electronic treadmill is not working?  He wondered why there was no power though he checked on it  many times, plugged it on and off.  He was evidently getting irritated and impatient figuring out why all of a sudden it was  out of service, when he had just used it few days back.

Hubby was busy tinkering with the power supply while I was also busily thinking of reasons on the sideline.  He was silent but I bet he already knew who caused the problem.   It was only the me and him in the house and who else would he suspect?   Alright, it was me!  But for some reasons I hesitated telling him beforehand that I had mistakenly plugged the 110 V to 220 V.   The machine sparked and that was it!     I was actually looking for a chance to break the sorry fate of the treadmill and thought of telling it this week end but it came too early that he found the problem.   Funny, but I was like a small child trying to cover up the whole story!

So, a technician was called.  The motherboard was found burned and need to be replaced.  For the meantime, what else can I do but do my stretching and jogging in place while the treadmill is awaiting repair.  And hubby understandably got lazy to work out.  He too is out of service… lol.

Oh dear.. it was all my fault!

Caffeine withdrawal

I can relate now to what my friend was telling me about his dad who stopped from smoking after he was diagnosed to have end stage lung cancer.  It took painful months of taking care of their father and so she pitied much her mother who carried out her wifely obligations without any complaints.  Although, you can see how stressed and burdened she was, still she continue till his husband’s last breath.

Now, it is SIL who is going through the process of keeping watchful eye of her husband who recently got out of the hospital due to MI (Myocardial Infraction) and that he was advised to stop smoking.  It ain’t easy since my brother has been smoking since his High School days and to according to him to stop smoking is suicidal but he needs to follow what was advised.   Though, it’s been almost 3 weeks now that he never puffed any cigarette, he is undergoing the so called withdrawal symptoms.  It has been a real struggle for him avoiding nicotine but for sure he wanted to live longer so he has to sacrifice.

My SIL told me that withdrawal symptoms are very evident and that she is really trying hard to cope up with my brothers unexpected behavior.   It is understandable that he would be cranky and irritable at times, suffer headaches and can’t sleep well.  He craves to smoke and these day he seems to be very hungry all the time.  He sometimes complains of tightness in the chest but his physician told us that there is not much to worry.

I always tell him to walk around and not just sit on his favorite rocking chair the whole day.  Light exercise too is good for blood circulation and that he needs to eat balanced diet and avoid greasy food which he loved so much.    Change of lifestyle will improve his health.

The most important thing is he should forget smoking permanently…

Weekly therapy…

It’s been a while since my last post… hubby need my TLC (tender loving care) as he is suffering from back pains.  Initial findings revealed that his back problems stemmed from spaces in his spinal chord already had built up flesh and bones that resulted to decreased mobility.  Sometimes, he will experience numbness on his left arm which we thought to be an impending stroke but lately we found out that it is  isn’t so.  The spinal chord is the main problem and he needs weekly therapy to loosen up his stiff and tight muscles around the neck and back area.   That is why,  he is having difficulty moving his head from left to right and and even bending it.   His driving is affected so side and rear mirrors are his best guide all throughout.   Or he should always drive with me besides him so I can guide him, warn him…. of vehicles left and right….

Last time, I went with him for his therapy, I was able to see how the session was.   He was subjected to electric wave shocks with cold compress using a machine ( the therapist forgot to give me how the procedure is called… I will ask next time) next, the ultrasound.. and the exercise therapy to wrap up the session for the day.

Really, it is painful to see a loved experiencing pain but I know that my mere presence will boost his morale.  And his pain will be lessened by my sight alone… yey… I am forever beautiful in his eyes.. don’t you know that?   (just kidding!)

ultrasound something…

head and neck exercise

Will find out the procedure this afternoon as he will come back for the therapy…. will post it soon…

Hubby is using our treadmill again….

Lol… having visited 2 sick friends in a row, hubby somehow remember to think about his health.   I bet, he is also worried (or scared) to suffer the same fate like our friend Vaughn who had heart attack a week ago.   Hubby is on hypertensive drug maintenance and I believe that because he rest with the thought that he is on regular medication, he can get away with eating whatever he likes and he tends to forget about those numerous stories of friends getting sick and suffering from stroke.   He is unmindful especially if his favorite food is served before him.

yehey… at last.. back to action

Last night, after we had visited two post op friends, it was sort of wake up call (again?) for him.  Our treadmill at home has not been used for several months now, (during the winter months) and now that summer months ushered in, I hope there will be no more excuses.   I inconspicuously took his picture while on the treadmill and I can see he was very enthusiastic.   Well.. well..I hope it is for real!    Starting to work out  is really hard, it is really the determination to stay fit will inspire you to endure the pain.

hope this is for real!

Well, it seemed that hubby is bent to make good of his promise to exercise now.   That’s good news… We will see if his enthusiasm will sustain till the end.  I don’t know if I will follow soon… I am still lazy….
